Read Stories Early in Life

Submitted by Sylvia R. of Augusta, Georgia

One of the best things you can do for a child is to read to them.

When I was four-years-old, I spent a long time in St. Mary’s hospital because of Polio. I will never forget the Grey Ladies who came to read stories to us. As a result, I learned to read, became an avid reader, and eventually a writer.

As a grandmother, and a great-grandmother, I still remember how I looked forward to the days the Grey Ladies came to read to us.

It let us escape the world in which we lived to explore some wonderful adventures. I believe that even research indicates that children who have stories read to them at an early age, read earlier and become better readers.

What better gift can you give a child?
