My idea is when your child comes home and they have had a bad day, a lot of us think what could they possibly have that was bad compared to an adult? But to them it’s really serious, and to take it seriously and sit down with them.
I think as parents we don’t want to always listen.
I just took the time to sit and listen.
Something that [my daughter] was dealing with was something where she was having hurt feelings at school. And we talked about those feelings. It was amazing the conversation we had.
After working through it together and actually sit down taking the time to listen to my child, she hasn’t had anymore problems with it since.
And she even, she’s only seven, but she even told me “Mama, thanks for helping me understand it better”.
It was a really sweat heart-to-heart talk. And we need to have more of those with our kids.
