Treasure Every Moment

Submitted by Janet S. of Graniteville, South Carolina

Treasure every moment because those moments go by so fast. If you blink, they are gone.

I have been through a lot in my life. My dad died when I was 17 and my mom died when I was 18. That was a hard thing to go through at such a young age, but the hardest thing was becoming a single parent when my son was only a year old. I totally raised him on my own and put my life on hold to make sure he had all I could give him.

I never remarried and barely dated all these years. I managed through the terrible teens and made it. I have survived melanoma skin cancer and PVNS, rare tumor disease.

I literally have a whole outlook on life and know how precious those moments are.

The one thing I did right was being there for my son and I would never do any of that different.

I took him on vacations, by myself, as much as possible. I played mom and dad through basketball, baseball, and some football. I never missed a practice or game.

He now has a child of his own and I only hope that I was successful in passing those virtues to him.

Putting my life on hold was well worth it. Now I am doing something for myself and am a full time student, as well as working full time.
