Vaccinate Your Children

Submitted by Rita, mother of two

According to the recommended immunization schedule, children may receive up to 24 vaccinations to protect them from up to 14 preventable diseases like Hib, whooping cough and measles. And in most cases, vaccination is required in order to attend daycare and kindergarten.

It may seem like a lot of vaccines for your child, but some parents are unnecessarily concerned. That’s why it’s important for parents to discuss any concerns with their child’s pediatrician.

Things to keep in mind include: any allergic reactions to a previous vaccination or a vaccine ingredient, such as eggs or gelatin. A high fever, or a history of fever after receiving a vaccination.

Former First Lady Rosalynn Carter and Former First Lady of Arkansas Betty Bumpers have set up a foundation and website to provide parents and healthcare providers with more resources.
